The Lab
The HumanAILab is a research laboratory of the Intelligent System Group that offers facilities for experimenting with interactions between people and intelligent agents embodied in social robots or avatars living in immersive environments.
The lab consists of embodied agents and i) an end-edge-cloud infrastructure to deploy services and applications and ii) an immersive bright environment with EdgeAI elements.
Some of the most relevant available services in the lab are:
- Natural language services to analyze language interactions. Some of the available services are moral, emotional, and sentiment analyses. These services can be deployed in single or cooperating agentic Large Language Models.
- Ethical GlassBox service to track and store human-agent interactions.
- AI Auditing services to detect bias or anomalous interactions
- Multilingual RAG services to interact with the Agents in specific domains, such as e-health, cultural heritage, or network management.
- Knowledge Graphs for augmenting LLM capabilities.
Equipment
1. HumanAILab is designed for evaluating humanoid behaviors (robots and avatars), consisting of
a. 2 Social Robot ARI and 4 Tiago robots with LLMs and an end-edge-cloud configuration
b. Immersive Hologram Wall System with LLM-powered avatars
2. Big Data Cluster Infrastructure consisting of a network storage and backup service of up to 36 data terabytes; several distributed databases, including SQL (Postgres, MySQL), document-oriented (Elasticsearch and MongoDB), graph-based (Neo4J) and multi-model (orientDB) databases; and Spark cluster.
3. Distributed Data Analysis: Two servers for CUDA and GPU computing, consisting of GPU-enabled Jupyter instances with access to several Nvidia TITAN X cards; a distributed data-analysis environment based on Jupyter, JupyterLab, and docker.
Immersive Digital Twin Lab
The immersive Lab provides scenarios for designing experiments with:
- realistic multilingual avatars powered by distributed cooperating Large Language Models in fields such as e-health, education and cultural heritage
- Digital twins of smart cities
- gamified environments for serious learning
Social Robot Lab
The SocialRobotLab consists of social robots with distributed Large Language Models and a Semantic Ethical GlassBox to design experiments, track their interactions and reasoning, and conduct AI and ethical audits.
